President Trump has made more than 20,000 false or misleading claims – The Washington Post

“It took President Trump 827 days to top 10,000 false and misleading claims in The Fact Checker’s database, an average of 12 claims a day.”

“But on July 9, just 440 days later, the president crossed the 20,000 mark — an average of 23 claims a day over a 14-month period, which included the events leading up to Trump’s impeachment trial, the worldwide pandemic that crashed the economy and the eruption of protests over the death of George Floyd in police custody.”

“The coronavirus pandemic has spawned a whole new genre of Trump’s falsehoods. The category in just a few months has reached nearly 1,000 claims, more than his tax claims combined. Trump’s false or misleading claims about the impeachment investigation — and the events surrounding it — contributed almost 1,200 entries to the database.”

The most racist president in modern history revels in violence – The Washington Post

“Police brutality, especially the use of excessive force against unarmed black people, is pervasive and a travesty that has existed for generations with the knowledge and toleration of America’s criminal justice system.”

“Police brutality has even been publicly endorsed.”

“Let’s return to a gathering of law enforcement officers at Suffolk County Community College on New York’s Long Island on July 28, 2017, where the main speaker was giving advice to police on how to treat people who’ve been arrested.”

The Trump Regime Is Beginning to Topple – The Atlantic

Updated at 12:04 p.m. on June 6, 2020

“Over the course of his presidency, Donald Trump has indulged his authoritarian instincts—and now he’s meeting the common fate of autocrats whose people turn against them. What the United States is witnessing is less like the chaos of 1968, which further divided a nation, and more like the nonviolent movements that earned broad societal support in places such as Serbia, Ukraine, and Tunisia, and swept away the dictatorial likes of Milošević, Yanukovych, and Ben Ali.”

“And although Trump’s time in office will end with an election and not an ouster, it is only possible to grasp the magnitude of what we’re seeing and to map what comes next by looking to these antecedents from abroad.”

“As in the case of many such revolutions, two battles are being waged in America. One is a long struggle against a brutal and repressive ideology. The other is a narrower fight over the fate of a particular leader. The president rose to power by inflaming racial tensions. He now finds his own fate enmeshed in the struggle against police brutality and racism.”

Trump’s Plan to End Obama’s Peaceful Police Reform Succeeded

Screenshot

“Last October, Minneapolis Police Union president Bob Kroll appeared at a Trump rally. Clad in his red “Cops for Trump” T-shirt, Kroll (who has been alleged to be affiliated with white supremacists) gloated that the president had unshackled his officers from the restraints imposed by Trump’s predecessor. “The Obama administration and the handcuffing and oppression of police was despicable,” he told the crowd. “The first thing President Trump did when he took office was turn that around, got rid of the Holder-Loretta Lynch regime and decided to start takin— letting the cops do their job, put the handcuffs on the criminals instead of us.” “

“We will never know if that unshackling emboldened Derek Chauvin to murder George Floyd. But the line between the relief demanded by Kroll on behalf of Minneapolis police, and the naked assassination committed on camera by one of his officers, is quite direct. The world around us, in which the streets of every major American city are filled with protesters, is the result of Trump granting the wishes of the most retrograde police officers. They are getting what they asked for.”

Trump’s claim that he’s done more for black Americans than any president since Lincoln – The Washington Post

“But the claim that Trump has exceeded every other president since Lincoln earned only derision from prominent historians. Instead, they said Lyndon B. Johnson, who signed into law the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, is clearly the president who had the most lasting impact on the lives of African Americans. These legislative victories were not easy, requiring Johnson to build coalitions with moderate Republicans and liberal Democrats to defeat the powerful segregationists in his own party who dominated the South.”

Percentage who say US is on the right track hits record low under Trump: poll | The Hill

“Nearly 70 percent of voters say the U.S. has “pretty seriously” gone off the right track under President Trump, a Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday found.”

“Of those surveyed in the May 29-June 1 poll, 31 percent said they thought the U.S. was on the right track, making it the lowest mark recorded in Politico/Morning Consult weekly polling since Trump took office in early 2017.”

“The 31 percent figure is a dip from last week’s poll, which found 34 percent of people thought the country was on the right track.”

“The last time their polling found this many voters thought the U.S. was on the wrong track was in November 2016, shortly after Trump was elected. “

Biden begins to map out ‘revolutionary’ agenda, reimagining his presidency amid national upheaval – The Washington Post

Screenshot

“As Joe Biden’s general election campaign has revved to life amid an extraordinary swirl of national upheaval, the presumptive Democratic nominee has begun to sketch out a dramatically different sort of presidency than the one he had envisioned when he secured the nomination two months ago.”

“The turmoil across the country, punctuated this week with authorities’ use of force against peaceful protesters near the White House, has caused a rethinking for a candidate who once promised donors that under his administration “nothing would fundamentally change” and who, just 11 weeks ago during his final primary debate, offered himself as a pragmatist, unlike his socialist rival Sen. Bernie Sanders, declaring: “People are looking for results, not a revolution.” “

Robert Reich: Trump’s Presidency Is Over | Opinion

“You’d be forgiven if you hadn’t noticed. His verbal bombshells are louder than ever, but Donald Trump is no longer president of the United States.”

“By having no constructive response to any of the monumental crises now convulsing America, Trump has abdicated his office.”

“He is not governing. He’s golfing, watching cable TV and tweeting.”
